Maguire revealed that Lyon's premature celebrations were the catalyst for United's turnaround. 'They thought they'd won it,' he said. 'The way they were celebrating, it gave us an extra push to turn the game around.'
Maguire admitted that the feeling of having thrown away the game was worse than losing it. 'We felt we'd thrown it away, rather than lost the game at that moment,' he said. 'How we managed to get ourselves into that situation was a bit of a wake-up call.'
Looking back on his six-year stint at United, Maguire said the comeback against Lyon summed up his time at the club. 'I've had some amazing moments here, and some bad times too. That game pretty much summed up my time at this club,' he said.
With the semi-finals looming, Maguire emphasized the importance of keeping momentum. 'It's important we do as well as we can in this competition,' he said. 'We're only in the semi-final, we're playing Athletic Bilbao. I don't know if people are saying they're the favorites to win the competition, but we'll go into it with a great belief to win the game.'
However, Maguire was quick to temper expectations. 'We're only in the semi-final, so we don't want to get carried away in terms of winning the competition,' he said.
