"It's unfortunate that we have to play without our captain, as he is very important to us. However, we've found solutions in the past when he couldn't be with us," said Brian Riemer after the game against Belarus.

Morten Frendrup last played for the national team in March, when he was substituted in the Nations League quarter-final against Portugal.

Since January 2022, Morten Frendrup has played for Italian Serie A team Genoa, where he has been a regular in the midfield almost continuously.

He performed consistently last season, earning him the captain's armband for the Italian club on several occasions.

This season, he has not yet captained Genoa, but he has played every Serie A match from the start.
