The match began with a setback for Brighton, as Jack Hinshelwood suffered an injury within seconds of kick-off after a coming together with Evanilson. Despite Hinshelwood's efforts to shake off the injury, he was forced to leave the field.
Bournemouth capitalized on the disruption and took the lead, thanks to a well-worked goal. Antoine Semenyo controlled the ball before laying it off to Alex Scott, who took a touch before firing past Bart Verbruggen.
Brighton's misfortune continued, as Fabian Hurzeler was forced into a second change of the first half, replacing the injured Maxim De Cuyper. The Cherries comfortably controlled the remainder of the half, maintaining their lead going into the break.
Despite Brighton's struggles, they still posed a threat, particularly with 10 of their previous 13 goals coming after the break. They added to this tally within four minutes of the restart, when Kaoru Mitoma headed in at the front post.
The momentum shifted in Brighton's favor, but the Seagulls were pulled back after Jan Paul van Hecke caught Evanilson in the box. Semenyo stepped up to take the resulting penalty, securing his third league goal of the season and restoring Bournemouth's lead.
The Cherries resumed control of the contest, but failed to put the game out of sight, with Marcus Tavernier sending a shot high and wide from the edge of the box. Justin Kluivert and Amine Adli also had efforts on goal, but in the end, Semenyo's penalty sealed the win for Bournemouth.
This victory earns Bournemouth their second head-to-head win in seven meetings, provisionally placing them in the top-four after a strong start to the season. Meanwhile, Brighton will be disappointed not to have capitalized on their chances, suffering back-to-back away Premier League defeats.
